Construction Officer – Substations (Remote Projects)

About the role

The Construction Officer – Substations will provide on‑site oversight and coordination for complex construction activities at remote power facilities across Canada. You will work closely with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality delivery of civil works, equipment installation, testing and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all construction phases, including civil works, equipment installation, testing and commissioning at remote substation sites.
• Coordinate contractors on‑site, ensuring compliance with safety procedures, project requirements and approved construction standards.
• Review, implement and update safety plans, risk assessments and work procedures in collaboration with contractors.
• Manage testing and commissioning activities while supporting quality‑assurance processes.
• Verify that materials, equipment and installations meet approved designs, specifications and contract requirements.
• Track project progress, support change‑management processes and resolve deficiencies.
• Prepare daily site reports, maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely incident reporting.
• Participate in safety meetings, liaise with plant operations and keep project managers and stakeholders informed.
• Provide technical input, respond to site‑related inquiries and support logistics, including travel and remote‑site operations.
• Assist with minor site or camp maintenance activities and adapt to changing project needs.

Required profile

• Experienced construction professional with strong site‑coordination capabilities.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and collaborative work.
• Ability to work extended schedules (up to 12 hours per day, 7 days per week) in remote environments.
• Effective communication skills for interaction with engineers, contractors and stakeholders.
