About the role

CGI is seeking an Employment Lawyer to join its Canadian Legal Affairs team in Montreal. You will act as a strategic partner to business leaders and HR, providing practical employment‑law advice in a fast‑moving environment. This role offers the chance to influence decisions, manage complex legal matters, and grow within a global IT and consulting firm.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice to HR and business leaders on employment law issues across Canada.
• Advise on employee relations, workplace investigations, litigation, human rights, privacy, and occupational health and safety.
• Manage employment‑related disputes and litigation in collaboration with external counsel.
• Draft, review, and update employment policies, agreements, and internal documentation.
• Monitor legislative and case‑law developments, identify emerging risks, and recommend proactive actions.
• Deliver training and guidance to HR teams and business leaders on employment‑law developments.
• Partner with HR, Privacy, Risk & Compliance, and other internal stakeholders on cross‑functional initiatives.
• Support the Director of Legal Affairs as needed.

Required profile

• Law degree (LL.B., J.D. or equivalent) and member in good standing of a Canadian provincial Bar.
• 4+ years of employment‑law experience in private practice, in‑house, or a combination of both.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian employment law across multiple jurisdictions.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trusted relationships with legal, HR, and business teams.
• Sound judgment with a practical, solution‑oriented approach to legal issues.
• Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable business advice.
• Strong organizational skills and capacity to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• High level of professionalism, autonomy, and attention to detail.
