Community Programs Assistant

About the role

The Community Programs Assistant supports the First Nations House of Learning (FNHL) by coordinating student engagement and community programs. Working on‑site, the role ensures smooth delivery of events, meetings, and initiatives that foster Indigenous student success.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate events and programming for FNHL’s Student Engagement and Community Programs portfolios, including the Vancouver Indigenous Students Collegium, Musqueam programs, and youth bridge initiatives.
• Assist in planning, set‑up, logistics, and delivery of on‑site meetings and workshops.
• Support day‑to‑day operations of the Vancouver Indigenous Students Collegium and student retention initiatives.
• Communicate with external suppliers, caterers, library staff, and other UBC departments to ensure collaborative execution of events.
• Provide administrative support to senior FNHL staff and maintain accurate records of program activities.

Required profile

• Proactive and able to work independently under broad direction.
• High level of tact, discretion, and cultural sensitivity, especially in Indigenous community engagement.
• Strong understanding of FNHL departmental functions.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as program needs dictate.
