Community Planning Manager

About the role

The Manager, Community Planning leads the community planning function for the Yuuəŋəˀətˀ Government, providing strategic oversight of land‑use frameworks, regulatory instruments and long‑term development planning to advance Treaty settlement land optimisation and community priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development, review and implementation of the Official Community Plan and related statutory planning instruments.
• Oversee zoning, development permits, land‑use regulatory frameworks and ensure alignment with infrastructure, housing, economic development and environmental stewardship.
• Exercise delegated authority to review and approve development plans, permitting, leasing and licensing in accordance with Nation laws.
• Represent the Nation in planning negotiations and intergovernmental discussions.
• Supervise planning staff and external consultants, conduct performance management and mentorship.
• Lead culturally grounded community engagement, integrating Elders’ input and technical data into planning outcomes.
• Develop and manage the annual planning budget, procurement of consultant contracts and fiscal accountability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Urban, Community or Regional Planning and Certified Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation.
• 7‑10+ years of progressive planning experience, including at least 2 years of supervisory or people‑management experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading major planning initiatives and managing budgets and consultant contracts.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in Planning, Public Administration or Indigenous Governance and experience working within Indigenous or Modern Treaty governance.
