Communications Specialist

About the role

The Centre for Migration Studies (CMS) at the University of British Columbia is seeking a Communications Specialist to lead strategic communications and knowledge‑mobilisation efforts. The role focuses on raising the visibility, accessibility and impact of CMS and its flagship research programme, Immigrant Integration in the Mid‑21st Century: Bridging Divides.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic communications plans that align with CMS objectives.
• Oversee editorial planning, content creation and an editorial calendar for multiple audiences.
• Manage CMS digital communications platforms, ensuring timely and consistent updates.
• Translate complex research findings into plain‑language summaries, research stories, briefs, policy explainers and other outreach products.
• Collaborate closely with faculty, researchers, trainees, students and community partners to produce audience‑focused materials.
• Liaise with the Arts Service Centre Communications team to adhere to brand guidelines and support faculty‑wide editorial strategy.

Required profile

• Reports to the CMS Senior Manager and works under guidance from CMS Co‑Directors.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of internal and external partners, including university units and community organisations.
• Experience in producing communications products for academic, policy, practitioner, media and public audiences.
