Communications Assistant B (Scribe)

About the role

The Communications Assistant B (Scribe) supports students who require exam accommodations at Student Accessibility and Achievement. Working directly in exam rooms, the scribe records the dictated answers of students, ensuring accuracy, legibility, and compliance with exam regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Write verbatim the student’s dictated responses, either by hand or using a computer.
• Read back the recorded answers to the student for verification when requested.
• Escort students to facilities such as washrooms during the exam, maintaining a secure environment.
• Prepare maps, graphs, or diagrams according to the student’s instructions.
• Keep the examination room tidy and ready for subsequent sessions.
• Report any incidents, disturbances, or suspected cheating to the appropriate authority.

Required profile

• Demonstrated discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Excellent listening and clear communication skills.
• Positive attitude toward equality and accessibility, with respect for diverse learning needs.

Required skills

• Legible handwriting.
• Proficient written English.
• Accurate typing skills for computer‑based transcription.
• Ability to produce diagrams or symbols as directed by the student.
