Co-op Researcher AI for Autonomous Driving & Multimodal Learning

About the role

Huawei Canada is seeking a co‑op researcher to investigate challenging problems in autonomous driving and multimodal reasoning, designing state‑of‑the‑art deep learning algorithms and prototypes.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate autonomous driving and multimodal reasoning problems such as scene understanding, decision making, spatial reasoning, or causal learning.
• Design and implement deep learning and transformer‑based vision‑language(-action) models.
• Prototype and evaluate ideas using simulation tools (CARLA, Navsim) and large‑scale driving datasets (Waymo, etc.).
• Analyze model behavior, develop visualizations, and contribute to benchmarking pipelines.
• Collaborate with senior researchers on projects and publications, participate in technical discussions, and maintain reproducible codebases.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a co‑op program and registered for a full‑duration work term.
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Comfortable working in a Linux environment and using Git, Docker, or Jupyter.
• Knowledge of machine‑learning fundamentals (linear algebra, probability, optimization, deep learning architectures).
• Interest or experience in computer vision, vision‑language models, reinforcement learning, autonomous driving simulation, or foundation models.
