Co-op Engineer - Machine Learning and AI Infrastructure

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Noah’s Ark Lab is seeking a co‑op Engineer to design and maintain software tools that support machine‑learning and AI workflows. You will work closely with researchers and engineers to turn cutting‑edge AI concepts into reliable, production‑ready infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software tools and infrastructure for machine learning and AI workflows.
• Build backend services, APIs, automation tools, and system integrations.
• Support large‑scale experiment execution, evaluation, and data processing workflows.
• Debug technical issues and improve system reliability, performance, and usability.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers to translate requirements into practical software solutions.
• Communicate with internal users, collect feedback, and provide technical support for developed tools.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals including debugging, testing, Git, and working with existing codebases.
• Familiarity with Linux development environments.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and capacity to learn new technologies independently.
• Good communication skills.
• Basic understanding of machine learning and modern AI systems.

Required skills

• Backend development, REST APIs, and databases.
• Docker, distributed systems, and cloud or compute infrastructure.
• Familiarity with large language models (LLMs), AI agents, and ML evaluation workflows.
• Frontend development experience such as React or TypeScript.
• Open‑source contributions, internships, or substantial personal software projects.
