Clinical Resource Nurse – Anesthesia (Victoria General Hospital)

About the role

The Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) provides leadership and direct nursing care for patients undergoing anesthesia at Victoria General Hospital. Working closely with the Department Head of Anesthesia and the Manager of Health Services – Surgery, the CRN ensures safe, patient‑centered care throughout the pre‑, intra‑ and post‑operative phases.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre‑anesthetic assessments, including detailed medical history, physical exam, airway evaluation, and review of labs, EKGs and consults.
• Prepare patients for anesthesia, establish IVs, and assist the anesthesiologist with induction, airway management, and intra‑operative monitoring.
• Provide post‑operative follow‑up and coordinate ongoing patient care.
• Screen patient charts for needs, maintain and procure anesthesia equipment and supplies.
• Teach and in‑service nursing and support staff on anesthesia procedures and safety protocols.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years recent experience in anesthesia nursing or ICU nursing; 3 years surgery experience preferred.
• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
• Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) and valid BCLS certification.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, think critically, and collaborate across disciplines.
• Clear criminal records check, vulnerable sector search, and child/adult abuse registry checks.
