Civil Estimator (Deep Utilities)

About the role

Black & McDonald’s Alberta Utilities team is seeking a Civil Estimator specialized in deep underground utilities. You will lead the full tendering process for water, sewer and gas projects, working closely with subcontractors, engineers and project teams to deliver accurate bids and support project handover.

Key responsibilities

• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, cost analysis and bid preparation using Bid2Win.
• Prepare and issue complete RFQ packages, coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors, and ensure full pricing coverage.
• Review subcontractor quotations for scope alignment, competitiveness and constructability.
• Develop tender‑level construction schedules, methodologies and execution plans focused on deep‑utility sequencing.
• Participate in site visits, tender reviews, hand‑off meetings and close‑out discussions, providing technical insight on constructability and risks.
• Maintain accurate estimating data, including Bid2Win database updates and supplier directories.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of estimating experience in deep underground utilities (water, sewer, gas) and associated civil infrastructure.

• Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, Teams).
