Civil Construction Superintendent

About the role

Pioneer Construction is seeking a Civil Construction Superintendent to lead daily field operations on civil construction projects in the Thunder Bay area. This hands‑on position coordinates crews, manages site activities, and ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and to project specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all phases of civil construction projects from inception to completion.
• Lead, train, recruit, hire and supervise the on‑site workforce.
• Act as the primary liaison between the Project Manager, Site Foreman, and clients, attending relevant meetings.
• Resolve day‑to‑day construction issues and anticipate future challenges related to schedule, materials, and methods.
• Maintain accurate daily diaries, timesheets, inspections, and work orders.
• Report daily activities, quantities, extras, and changes to the Project Manager for schedule and payment updates.
• Prepare monthly progress payments and schedule updates.
• Ensure a clean work environment, enforce safety policies, and wear required PPE.
• Travel to job sites across Northern Ontario, including occasional overnight stays.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction technology, laboratory technology, or a related field.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in the civil construction industry.
• Prior leadership or managerial experience.
• Valid G class driver’s licence.
• Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

Required skills

• Surface Miner Common Core certification (considered an asset).
• ACI certification (considered an asset).
• Aggregate and Asphalt CCIL certification (considered an asset).
