Cheerleading Technical Specialist – Assistant Coach

About the role

The Technical Specialist – Assistant Coach will work under the Head Coach of McGill's cheerleading program, supporting daily coaching activities, performance preparation, and administrative tasks. This role is essential for athlete development, practice execution, and ensuring the team is ready for games and competitions.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, organize, and distribute practice and performance equipment such as mats, uniforms, and stunt gear.
• Assist in setting up practices, game‑day performances, and competition venues.
• Track and evaluate team performances during events, noting strengths and areas for improvement.
• Review practice footage and performance videos to identify technical enhancements.
• Analyze performance trends (stunting, tumbling, choreography) and prepare feedback reports for the Head Coach.
• Support coaching staff in implementing practice plans, routines, and game‑day strategies.
• Teach and supervise stunts, tumbling, choreography, and sideline engagement while prioritizing athlete safety.

Required profile

• Demonstrated coaching or instructional experience in cheerleading, dance, gymnastics, or a related performance sport.
• Certification in First Aid/CPR; additional safety or coaching certifications are a plus.
• Preferred NCCP or equivalent coaching certification.
• Strong organizational skills, punctuality, and ability to work collaboratively.
• High energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to motivate student‑athletes.
• Bilingual in French and English.

Required skills

• Knowledge of cheerleading techniques including stunting, tumbling, and choreography.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
• NCCP or comparable coaching certification (preferred).
• Fluency in both French and English.
