Casual Residential Support Worker

About the role

Under the direction of the Safe Beds Program Supervisor, the Residential Support Worker provides mental health and housing support to Safe Beds clients, helping them develop goals, life skills, and access safer housing.

Key responsibilities

• Assess client eligibility, admit clients, and monitor safety in residential care.
• Develop and support client goal plans for mental health, housing, and daily living activities.
• Facilitate life‑skill training such as budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and hygiene.
• Make community referrals and maintain professional contacts with local resources.
• Participate in program evaluation, identify service gaps, and contribute to program improvement.

Required profile

• Two‑year post‑secondary diploma in a relevant field (e.g., Recreation Therapy, Occupational Therapist Assistant, Developmental Service Worker).
• At least one year recent experience working with individuals experiencing mental health concerns.
• Valid Ontario driver’s licence with reliable vehicle and insurance.
• Ability to work a minimum of three shifts within a twelve‑week period.

Required skills

• Knowledge of mental illnesses, signs, and symptoms.
• Strong assessment abilities and familiarity with community resources.
• Bilingualism in both official languages (advanced level) considered an asset.
