Casual Research Assistant – PT Pain Education Study

About the role

Timothy Wideman, Associate Professor at McGill University, is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to support a CIHR‑funded project that aims to improve entry‑level pain education across Canadian physiotherapy programs. The incumbent will assist with planning, coordination and administration of a national pilot randomized controlled trial and related studies.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the lab manager in planning and administering educational modules and a national competency assessment in PT pain management.
• Schedule participants, simulated patient actors, facilitators and students for educational and assessment sessions.
• Develop and maintain detailed schedules, rehearsal and training sessions.
• Prepare, update and distribute study documents, ensuring confidentiality and proper data handling.
• Collect and organise data, including virtual simulation‑based assessments, video/audio recordings, and survey results.
• Coordinate assessment evaluators, compensate participants, and perform quality‑control checks on submitted files.
• Manage ethics renewals/amendments and support other related research projects as needed.

Required profile

• Bilingual fluency in French and English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, time‑management and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, with high attention to detail and flexibility.
• Currently pursuing or holding an undergraduate degree relevant to health research.
• Previous experience in clinical health research with human subjects is preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, OneDrive).
• Experience using database management tools such as SPSS, REDCap and LimeSurvey.
• Familiarity with online video‑conferencing platforms, particularly Zoom.
