Cardiac Surgery Hospitalist - Acute Care Specialist

About the Position

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Cardiac Surgery Hospitalist, playing a vital role in the acute care service at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). You will be at the forefront of post-operative recovery, ensuring high-quality clinical management for patients undergoing complex cardiac procedures.

Main Missions

• Provide comprehensive post-operative care for cardiac surgery patients, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valvular, and aortic surgeries.
• Manage patients with complex comorbidities and monitor for common post-operative complications such as atrial fibrillation, acute kidney injury, delirium, pneumonia, stroke, and heart failure.
• Collaborate actively within a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient recovery pathways and facilitate safe, efficient discharges.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of clinical outcomes within the acute cardiac surgery service.

Candidate Profile

• Certified physician with a CCFP (Canadian College of Family Practitioners) designation (mandatory).
• Must hold a full or provisional registration with the College of Physicians of British Columbia (CPSBC).
• Previous experience in a hospitalist role is highly desirable.
• Ability to work a permanent part-time schedule, including weekdays and weekends (no night shifts or on-call duties).
• Commitment to rigorous clinical standards and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Required Skills & Certifications

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) (mandatory).
• Expertise in managing acute post-surgical cardiac complications.
• Strong clinical decision-making skills in high-acuity settings.
