CAD Designer – Cable Containment for Rail & Transit

About the role

WSP is seeking a CAD Designer specialized in cable containment for rail and transit projects. You will join a high‑performing Rail & Transit team delivering complex, nation‑shaping transportation infrastructure across Canada.

Key responsibilities

• Design and model 2D/3D guideway infrastructure and cable containment systems following Metrolinx, CN, CP, AREMA and project standards.
• Create accurate 3D models for systems such as CCTV, intrusion detection, SCADA, lighting, signals, duct banks, and axle counters.
• Prepare coordinated drawing packages for client submissions, ensuring quality and alignment with engineering direction.
• Support multidisciplinary teams through design, construction, and commissioning phases.
• Review site conditions, specifications and external documentation to guarantee integration and accuracy.
• Conduct self‑reviews, perform quality checks, document design changes and participate in value‑engineering activities.
• Present design concepts in meetings, workshops and coordination sessions with clients and partner consultants.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary engineering technology diploma or degree.
• Minimum 5 years experience in a relevant design role.
• At least 2 years experience as a CAD/CADD Designer on rail or transit infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for both 2D and 3D workflows.
• Familiarity with railway communications technologies and related standards.
• Strong attention to detail, version control and drafting standards.
• Ability to adapt to deadline‑driven environments and manage shifting priorities.
