Business Intelligence (Power BI) Analyst

About the role

The Government of Alberta is seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst with deep expertise in Microsoft Power BI to support the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS). This remote position will help modernize environmental and natural‑resource regulatory processes through advanced analytics and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, scorecards, and visual analytics.
• Build enterprise reporting solutions using Power BI, DAX, and Power Query.
• Create and manage data models, semantic models, and ETL processes.
• Integrate Power BI with Azure‑based and on‑premises data sources.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into analytical solutions.
• Conduct data analysis to uncover trends, anomalies, and opportunities.
• Present findings and recommendations to executive audiences.
• Configure Power BI Service features such as scheduled refreshes, alerts, Row‑Level Security, incremental refresh, and performance optimization.
• Ensure data quality, governance, and security compliance.
• Provide end‑user training, support, and documentation.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Computer Science, IT, Data Analytics or related field.
• 5+ years experience turning business requirements into analytical and reporting solutions.
• 5+ years hands‑on experience designing and optimizing advanced Power BI dashboards and reports.
• 5+ years experience with SQL for querying and data transformation.
• 5+ years experience analyzing large, complex datasets.
• 5+ years experience developing complex DAX measures and data models.
• 4+ years experience implementing Power BI Service capabilities.
