Building Operator – Facility Management

About the role

Black & McDonald is expanding its Facility Management & Operations team in Ashton, Ontario. The Building Operator will ensure safe, efficient operation of the facility, maintain equipment supplies, and respond to service requests.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect buildings and property for safety hazards and regulatory compliance.
• Monitor and maintain building environmental systems and overall equipment condition.
• Troubleshoot and repair HVACR, door, electrical, lighting, plumbing, fire detection, generator, life‑safety, security, access‑control and building‑envelope systems; escalate when needed.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all contract assets.
• Support contract requirements for roads, grounds, utilities, fencing and gates.
• Maintain accurate records in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and ensure supplies are available.
• Report actions taken, follow‑up requirements and provide recommendations for facility improvement.

Required profile

• Building Environmental Systems Operator II certification, Building Systems Maintenance Certificate (SMC) or equivalent.
• 1‑3 years of facilities maintenance and operations experience.
• Basic electrical awareness and understanding of fire & life‑safety panels.
• Strong technical knowledge of heating & cooling systems, building automation, safety & compliance, and diagnostic tools.
• Basic plumbing skills and ability to work in confined spaces or at heights.
