Building Operator – Facilities Management

About the role

Black & McDonald’s Facilities Maintenance team is expanding and seeks a committed, collaborative professional to join as a Building Operator. You will work across multiple sites in the Greater Toronto Area, ensuring that building systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine property and site inspections and perform maintenance on various GTA locations.
• Complete preventive and demand maintenance tasks such as chemical treatments, filter changes, belt replacements, lubrications, and cleaning of utility rooms.
• Inspect, operate, maintain and repair boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, pumps, generators, UPS, and life‑safety systems.
• Monitor electrical power distribution and building automation systems, responding promptly to alarms.
• Perform minor repairs including faucet replacements, drain clearing, pump/motor swaps, and breaker resets.
• Ensure maximum energy efficiency of mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Maintain safe operation of all equipment in accordance with government codes and regulations.

Required profile

• Ability to work independently while traveling to multiple GTA sites.
• 1‑3 years of facilities maintenance and operations experience.
• Strong technical capabilities with building systems and equipment.
• Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
• Holding a Building Environment System certificate or relevant trade licence (BES 1/2).
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean abstract and ability to obtain security clearance.
