Branch Assistant – Library Services

About the role

The Branch Assistant provides front‑line customer service in one of Lambton County Library’s regional branches. You will create a welcoming environment, assist patrons with borrowing and returning materials, and support library programs that promote reading and lifelong learning.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patrons in locating and checking out books, videos, audiobooks and computers, following library policies.
• Issue new and replacement library cards, conduct orientation tours, and answer patron inquiries.
• Place items on hold, collect fees, and manage inter‑branch transfers of materials.
• Provide reference, research assistance, and readers’ advisory services.
• Deliver scheduled programs such as story hours and summer reading events, handling registration and promotion.
• Perform routine administrative duties, including shelving returned items and maintaining circulation records.

Required profile

• Strong customer‑service orientation with a friendly, professional demeanor.
• Ability to communicate clearly with patrons of all ages.
• Organised, reliable and able to manage multiple tasks in a public‑facing environment.

Required skills

• Basic computer operation and internet navigation.
