Backend Software Engineer

About the role

eBay is seeking a self‑motivated Backend Software Engineer to join a fast‑moving, agile team. You will design, build, and maintain large‑scale distributed systems that support millions of daily transactions across the eCommerce platform.

Key responsibilities

• Research, design, develop, test, and deploy backend solutions aligned with business and technology strategies.
• Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and team meetings.
• Collaborate with architects, product managers, and operations to deliver high‑performance, scalable, and reliable services.
• Drive architecture decisions, produce design documentation, and ensure code quality through refactoring and best‑practice adoption.
• Maintain and evolve the technology stack for systems handling over 1 billion requests per day.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with 5+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 4+ years of hands‑on experience building large‑scale distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of computer‑science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.
• Proven ability to work in an agile environment focused on problem solving and engineering excellence.
