Backend Engineer (JavaScript/TypeScript) – Cloud & AI

About the role

KPMG Canada’s Cloud Centre of Excellence is looking for a Backend Engineer to design and build cloud‑native services that support internal teams and client delivery. You will work remotely, collaborating with a talented group of developers to create production‑grade applications that leverage AI and modern cloud technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Co‑design backend services and data layers for cloud‑based applications.
• Develop APIs, repositories, and data models using JavaScript, TypeScript and Node.js.
• Collaborate with UI/UX teams to ensure seamless integration of front‑end components.
• Experiment with emerging cloud and AI technologies, delivering proof‑of‑concepts.
• Maintain operational excellence, security, and compliance across all deliverables.

Required profile

• University degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on full‑stack development experience.
• Proven contribution to backend or full‑stack projects.
• Strong collaboration, reporting and organizational abilities.

Required skills

• JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js
• API development (backend and frontend)
• Data modeling, repositories, cloud storage services
• Performance/load testing, component and unit testing
• Container‑based and serverless architectures (e.g., Kubernetes)
• Building single‑page applications with React.js
• Git branching and source‑code management
