Back End Developer – Remote (Toronto)

About the role

We are looking for an energetic and detail‑oriented Back End Developer to join a fast‑growing Canadian start‑up focused on healthcare technology. The role is fully remote, supporting a team that builds web applications for cancer informatics and whole‑slide image analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and debug complex, interconnected backend systems.
• Gather feature requirements from internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with developers, designers, and system administrators to deliver new features.
• Review, test, and maintain existing functionality while developing new services.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and self‑study new tools.
• Document APIs and system components for both internal and external audiences.
• Provide training, support, and inbound bug‑fix handling for internal teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience as a back‑end or full‑stack developer.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent teamwork, time‑management, and English communication skills (verbal and written).

Required skills

• Python (preferred backend language).
• Relational databases: PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Design and implementation of REST or RPC web services.
• Containerisation with Docker and orchestration using Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with source‑control (Git), unit testing, CI/CD pipelines, and bug‑tracking tools.
