Audio‑Visual Systems Designer

About the role

The University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine is seeking an Audio‑Visual Systems Designer to lead the development and application of AV design standards across classrooms, collaborative spaces and large‑audience venues. The role combines consultancy, technical leadership and hands‑on implementation to support teaching, research and administrative communication.

Key responsibilities

• Define and maintain Faculty‑wide audio‑visual design standards and guidelines.
• Design, specify and oversee installation of AV systems for classrooms, labs, conference rooms and remote‑learning environments.
• Provide technical consultancy to faculty, staff and researchers on AV solutions that enable collaboration and distance interaction.
• Ensure AV specifications are correctly implemented on individual projects and align with overall standards.
• Collaborate with internal and external vendors to deliver high‑quality AV installations.

Required profile

• Relevant post‑secondary education or equivalent experience in audio‑visual technology, engineering or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and provide consultancy within a large academic institution.
• Strong communication skills to work with faculty, administrators and technical teams.
