Asylum Seekers Assistance Program Housing Worker

About the role

The Newcomer Asylum Seekers Assistance Program Housing Worker will help asylum seekers secure appropriate housing and provide ongoing support throughout their participation in the program. This full‑time, temporary position runs from October 11, 2026 to January 17, 2027 and is unionized.

Key responsibilities

• Assist participants in finding housing that fits their needs and budget, including unit management, neighborhood orientation, and grocery shopping.
• Provide advice, education, advocacy, and practical help, and cover shifts at the Reception Center as needed.
• Maintain confidential records of participation and program statistics.
• Work with landlords, expand the landlord list, and report progress and challenges to management.
• Conduct home visits, community accompaniments, and support clients at the Reception Center.

Required profile

• College diploma or higher in social work, social services, or related field, or equivalent experience working with newcomers.
• Leadership ability to guide the ASAP team and Newcomer department on housing matters.
• Experience in the housing field, including finding units, completing applications, interpreting leases, and arranging move‑ins and move‑outs.
• Fluency in French, Arabic, Swahili, and Spanish (both spoken and written) is strongly recommended.
• Valid G driver’s licence, access to a vehicle, and flexibility to work evenings and weekends if needed.
