Associate Vice-President (Financial Services)

About the role

The Associate Vice-President, Financial Services provides strategic leadership for McGill University's financial stewardship, governance, and operational excellence. Reporting to the Vice‑President (Administration and Finance), the AVP shapes financial strategies that support the university's academic mission and long‑term priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of financial strategies that ensure sustainability and support academic goals.
• Oversee financial reporting, accounting operations, budgeting, financial planning and analysis, and procurement across the institution.
• Collaborate with senior leadership and the seven finance‑related units to align financial practices with the Horizon McGill transformation initiative.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal controls, and risk‑management frameworks.
• Drive initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, financial transparency, and long‑term institutional resilience.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level financial leadership experience in a large, complex organization.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multi‑billion‑dollar budgets and financial operations.
• Strong understanding of higher‑education finance and the ability to align financial decisions with academic priorities.
• Proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders and driving strategic change.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.
