Associate Programme Management Officer

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is looking for an Associate Programme Management Officer to support the implementation and management of the Convention on Biological Diversity’s Article 8(j) work in its Montreal Secretariat. The role will contribute to the development of outreach, partnerships and fundraising activities for indigenous peoples and local communities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide substantive support for the implementation of the Programme of Work on Article 8(j), including preparation and servicing of COP and inter‑sessional meetings focused on traditional knowledge.
• Manage partnership initiatives, parallel events and side events related to indigenous peoples and local communities.
• Prepare and service meetings of the Subsidiary Body on Article 8(j) and other related provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
• Produce, maintain and disseminate information through publications such as the CBD Technical Series.
• Offer technical advice to Parties and Secretariat staff on mainstreaming Articles 8(j) and 10(c).
• Support the management and fundraising for the Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.
• Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with IPLCs, NGOs and international agencies, including the Inter‑Agency Support Group on Indigenous Peoples Issues.
• Contribute to the System‑Wide Action Plan for coherent implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
