Associate General Counsel – Regulatory Affairs & Disputes

About the role

Hiive is seeking an experienced lawyer to join its legal team as an Associate General Counsel, focusing on regulatory affairs and disputes. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will provide expert legal counsel while ensuring the smooth operation of Hiive’s marketplace platform.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and oversee all aspects of litigation, arbitration, collections, and dispute resolution, including commercial, regulatory, and employment matters.
• Develop and execute internal litigation management processes and systems, such as eDiscovery and records management/retention, in partnership with Legal Operations.
• Provide day‑to‑day advice on employment and intellectual property issues, serving as the go‑to legal expert for these areas.
• Collaborate with and manage outside counsel to control costs and maintain high‑quality representation.
• Draft, review, and supervise litigation‑related documents and legal memoranda.
• Advise senior leadership on litigation exposure, trends, and mitigation strategies.
• Support regulatory inquiries, examinations, and investigations, working closely with the Compliance team.

Required profile

• J.D. or L.L.B. with a license to practice law in the United States or Canada.
• 8+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally beginning at a law firm and later in‑house at a financial services or fintech company.
• Proven track record managing litigation and regulatory matters.
• Experience developing internal litigation management processes and systems.
• Strong judgment and composure in high‑pressure situations.
