About the role
The University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine is seeking an Associate Director to lead research program planning and administration. This senior position will shape strategic initiatives, support faculty research activities, and oversee the Office of Research operations.
Key responsibilities
- Conceptualize, strategize and implement collaborative planning approaches that affect the Faculty of Medicine and the wider university.
- Partner with senior leadership to develop and execute strategic plans for research and academic operations.
- Lead the administration and daily operations of the Office of Research, supervising staff and ensuring efficient service delivery.
- Provide functional direction to the Graduate and Postdoctoral Education Office.
- Manage research‑related resources and support for faculty members.
- Collaborate with the Vice Dean, Research, Senior Director, Research and other pillars (Education, Organization, Partnerships) on special administrative initiatives.
Required profile
- Proven experience in research administration or academic program management at a senior level.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder‑engagement skills across multiple departments.
- Ability to develop and execute strategic plans in a complex university environment.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.

- Fixed‑term leave‑replacement role for 14 months with potential extension.
