Assistant Professor - Theoretical Biophysics

About the role

The Department of Physics at McGill University seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Theoretical Biophysics, starting August 1, 2027. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, research‑intensive department and contribute to its strong biophysics program.

Key responsibilities

• Develop an independent, externally funded research program of international scope that complements existing biophysics strengths.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in physics and biophysics.
• Participate in departmental and university administrative duties.
• Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and collegial departmental environment.

Required profile

• PhD in physics or a closely related field with a specialization in biophysics/biological physics.
• Post‑doctoral or equivalent research experience is desirable.
• Demonstrated excellence in research, evidenced by high‑impact peer‑reviewed publications and strong external endorsements.
• Proven teaching ability and effective communication skills, supported by teaching statements and references.

Required skills

• Strong background in theoretical biophysics and related computational or analytical methods.
• Ability to secure external research funding.
• Experience mentoring graduate students.
