Assistant Professor – Oral Microbiome Research

About the role

The University of British Columbia Faculty of Dentistry seeks an outstanding scholar for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Oral Biological and Medical Sciences. The role begins in Fall 2026 and focuses on advancing oral and systemic microbiome research.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an independent research program on oral and systemic microbiome interactions.
• Secure external funding and contribute to the Canadian National Oral Health Research Strategy.
• Supervise undergraduate, graduate and post‑doctoral trainees.
• Collaborate with existing research themes such as craniofacial development, infection, immunity and biomaterials.
• Teach and mentor students within the Faculty of Dentistry.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline with post‑doctoral training.
• Strong record of recent independent research (first or senior author papers in the past three years).
• Evidence of grant or salary awards is advantageous.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• A DMD/DDS or dental hygiene degree is desirable but not mandatory.
