Assistant Professor in Library & Information Studies

About the role

The Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor to join its internationally accredited Library & Information Studies (LIS) program. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and service, supporting approximately 270 graduate students.

Key responsibilities

• Teach, revise, and develop foundational and elective MLIS courses delivered on‑campus and asynchronously online.
• Integrate educational technologies and innovative pedagogies while ensuring alignment with ALA accreditation standards.
• Provide academic advising and supervise thesis‑based students in the combined MA(DH)/MLIS program.
• Advance a funded research agenda, publish in peer‑reviewed venues, and present at conferences.
• Participate in departmental, faculty, and university service, including program accreditation and community‑engagement initiatives.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in Library & Information Studies or a closely related field.
• Teaching experience relevant to the evolving MLIS curriculum.
• Demonstrated scholarship in at least one of the following areas: critical information and data studies, Indigenous scholarship in LIS, information organization and services, or management and leadership in libraries.
• Commitment to quality teaching, research excellence, and the public good.
