Assistant Deputy Minister – Legal Services

About the role

The Department of Justice in Yukon is seeking a senior legal professional to serve as Assistant Deputy Minister for Legal Services. Reporting to the Deputy Minister, this executive‑level role provides strategic direction to the Legal Services division and delivers high‑level legal advice across government departments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the branches of the Legal Services division.
• Provide senior legal counsel to internal departments and external partners.
• Develop and oversee policy, fiscal, and human‑resource strategies for the division.
• Drive strategic planning, financial management, and program delivery for complex legal initiatives.
• Foster collaborative relationships with federal, provincial/territorial, municipal and First Nations governments.

Required profile

• Law degree from a Canadian university and membership (or eligibility) with the Yukon Law Society.
• At least 10 years of experience as a lawyer in the public or private sector.
• Extensive executive‑level experience in public or private administration, including strategic planning, HR and financial management.
• Proven ability to lead diverse, high‑profile programs and teams.
