Assistant Controller – Finance Leadership Role

About the role

Join Morgan’s Finance team in Edmonton as an Assistant Controller. This newly created leadership position oversees day‑to‑day finance operations in a fast‑moving heavy civil construction environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise Payroll, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams.
• Drive the month‑end close process in partnership with the Controller.
• Coordinate timelines and deliverables across all accounting functions.
• Review journal entries, reconciliations and period‑end reporting.
• Manage the full lifecycle of fixed assets and corporate debt.
• Maintain accounting system integrity and chart of accounts governance.
• Oversee GST, HST and PST filings and act as tax subject‑matter expert.
• Lead First Nations partnership invoicing and commission calculations.
• Support external year‑end processes and serve as primary internal contact for auditors.
• Handle CRA correspondence, vendor credit reviews and policy development.
• Identify automation opportunities, champion process improvements and flag control gaps.

Required profile

• CPA designation (or actively pursuing) with strong practical experience.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
• Proven ownership of full‑cycle accounting and month‑end close.
• Experience managing and developing AP, AR, Payroll and Corporate Accounting teams.
