ASL Interpreter – Educational Setting

About the role

The Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre is seeking a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to support students, teachers and community members in an educational environment. This permanent, full‑time position is based in Winnipeg and involves regular travel to Indigenous communities and partner schools.

Key responsibilities

• Translate American Sign Language to spoken English and vice‑versa for individuals and small groups.
• Provide on‑site interpretation during classroom instruction, meetings, workshops and community events.
• Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, Indigenous‑owned businesses and organizations.

Required profile

• College or CEGEP education in American Sign Language, LSQ, or sign‑language interpretation.
• Certification from a provincial professional corporation for translators, terminologists and interpreters.
• Certification from the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada (AVLIC).
• Willingness to travel regularly as required.
• Clear criminal record and successful Child Abuse Registry check.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
