Airport Labourer – Casual Maintenance Position

About the role

The Department of Highways and Public Works is hiring casual labourers to support spring and summer maintenance at Whitehorse Airport and surrounding community aerodromes. The role is a 3‑month casual assignment with the possibility of extension to full‑time casual work.

Key responsibilities

• Operate light maintenance equipment with attachments on airside and groundside areas.
• Perform grounds‑maintenance tasks such as mowing, snow removal, and vegetation control.
• Carry out minor repairs to fences, signs and other small structures.
• Assist with general labour duties to maintain airport safety and functionality.

Required profile

• Commitment to safe work practices and reliability.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Adaptability to changing priorities and weather conditions.
• Initiative, self‑motivation and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Required skills

• Experience operating tractors, 1‑ton trucks, lawnmowers and small loaders.
• Proficiency with chainsaws and brush saws.
• Ability to use various hand tools and perform minor repairs.
• Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s licence.
• Transport Canada Transportation Security Clearance (within 3 months).
• Restricted Radio Operator’s Licence and Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit (within 1 month).
