AI & Automation Engineer Co‑op (Winter & Summer 2027)

About the role

The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation is looking for a co‑op student to design, build, and operate AI agents and automation that support its Microsoft 365 collaboration platform. You will gain hands‑on experience with production AI platforms such as Microsoft Foundry, Anthropic Claude, and Microsoft Copilot while delivering real‑world automation for a regulated financial institution.

Key responsibilities

• Build, test, and deploy AI agents on Microsoft Foundry and Azure Bot Service, handling prompt design, knowledge sources, guardrails, evaluation, and observability.
• Develop automation scripts in PowerShell and Python against Microsoft Graph, SharePoint, Teams, Exchange, and ServiceNow APIs, and deploy them via Azure Automation runbooks and Azure DevOps pipelines.
• Run proof‑of‑concepts for new AI and automation capabilities, document findings, and provide recommendations.
• Create reporting dashboards on platform usage, adoption, and health to enable data‑driven decisions.
• Collaborate with Cyber Security, Cloud Operations, and Enterprise Architecture on identity, permission, and data‑protection reviews for new AI integrations.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a computer science, software engineering, data science, or related technical program.
• Strong communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
• Security and privacy mindset with sound judgement handling corporate data.
• Self‑starter who can work on loosely defined problems and drive them to resolution.
