After School Program Mentor (Ages 4-12)

About the role

BGC St. Alban's Club is seeking enthusiastic, energetic, and dedicated individuals to join the STARS After School programs at the main clubhouse and Kensington Community Public School. As a Program Mentor you will create a safe, supportive environment for children aged 4‑12 and deliver a mix of educational, recreational, and artistic activities.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organize and lead groups of children in a variety of activities, ensuring they are fun, inclusive and age‑appropriate.
• Maintain a safe environment by checking equipment, supervising participants, and following health‑and‑safety protocols.
• Complete administrative tasks such as attendance records, program plans, and team meeting notes.
• Respond to critical incidents and follow club policies for emergencies, headcounts, fire drills and lockdowns.
• Manage conflicts and behavior using corrective techniques learned in training.
• Participate in staff training, orientation sessions and PA‑day trainings.

Required profile

• Experience working with children aged 4‑12.
• Strong supervision, program planning and decision‑making abilities.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR‑C certification (or obtain within first month).
• Police reference check upon hiring.
• Completion of HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Child Development training.
• Comfortable working in a pool environment.

Required skills

• First Aid and CPR‑C certification.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards for youth programs.
• Ability to design and facilitate sports, arts, recreation, and nutrition activities.
• Effective conflict‑resolution and behavior‑management techniques.
