Addictions Specialist – Safe Bed Program

About the role

The Addictions Specialist works within the Safe Bed Program of the Canadian Mental Health Association Kenora Branch, providing assessment, planning, coordination and support for clients with addiction‑related needs who are experiencing a mental health crisis.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough screening and assessment of client substance‑use needs and develop individualized recovery plans.
• Provide addiction‑related counseling, crisis support, psycho‑education and harm‑reduction guidance.
• Facilitate and monitor implementation of recovery plans, including referrals to treatment and rehabilitation services.
• Maintain accurate client records, ensure confidentiality, and comply with CMHA policies and health‑and‑safety regulations.
• Participate in team meetings, training, and administrative duties as required.

Required profile

• BSW preferred or equivalent education; registration or eligibility under the Ontario Psychotherapy Act.
• 3–5 years of experience in addiction services with strong clinical assessment skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clients, team members and community stakeholders.
• Valid driver’s licence, criminal records check, CPR and First Aid certification.
