Accountant IV

About the role

This position supports a leading North American financial institution in Toronto. The Accountant IV will act as a subject‑matter expert on complex accounting matters, focusing on financial instruments, consolidation, and IFRS compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on accounting issues, including financial instruments and consolidation.
• Review new business and product proposals, conduct IFRS 9 business model assessments, and advise on accounting implications.
• Perform technical accounting research, benchmarking, and prepare memos and presentation materials.
• Assist in preparing external consolidated shareholder reports (MD&A, financial statements, notes, supplemental information) and enhance disclosures.
• Stay current with IFRS pronouncements, deliver periodic technical updates, and develop accounting policy materials.
• Deliver timely, accurate IFRS advisory services to internal stakeholders and translate complex topics into actionable recommendations.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with finance partners, auditors, advisors, and peer banks.
• Execute ad‑hoc tasks to support the accounting team as needed.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary degree in accounting or related field.
• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
• 5‑7 years of financial accounting experience within a financial institution.
• Proven experience researching and resolving complex IFRS issues, especially for financial instruments and consolidation.
• Strong analytical, judgment, and detail‑orientation skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
