Academic Physiatrist – Lecturer to Full Professor

About the role

The Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, in partnership with University Health Network’s Rehabilitation program, is hiring up to two academic physiatrists. The position is a full‑time Clinician Teacher appointment at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, commencing on October 1, 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Provide inpatient and outpatient physiatric consultations for acquired brain injury (ABI) and slow‑stream rehabilitation services.
• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, including lectures, bedside teaching, and mentorship.
• Participate in research and quality‑improvement initiatives within the Department of Post‑Acute Care & Rehabilitation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized rehabilitation plans.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with eligibility for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
• Fellowship or eligibility for Fellowship certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or equivalent US board certification.
• Demonstrated record of teaching excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate settings.
• Completion of the Master Teacher program at the University of Toronto or a master’s degree in an education‑related field.

Required skills

• Clinical expertise in physical medicine and rehabilitation, particularly acquired brain injury.
• Ability to teach and mentor medical trainees across multiple levels.
• Strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration.
