Academic Expert/Marker for Design and Analysis of Algorithms

About the role

The Learning Services Tutorial Department at Athabasca University is seeking an Academic Expert/Marker to support the COMP 372 – Design and Analysis of Algorithms course. The role involves providing academic assistance to students, marking assignments, and recording final grades while maintaining high academic standards.

Key responsibilities

• Mark student assignments and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Record and submit final grades in accordance with university policies.
• Maintain accurate student records and ensure prompt return of graded work.
• Support students through online platforms, answering queries and clarifying course material.
• Collaborate with the course coordinator and teaching team to uphold course quality.

Required profile

• Minimum Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (PhD preferred).
• Post‑secondary teaching experience, preferably in distance‑learning environments.
• Familiarity with digital teaching technologies and online course delivery.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
• Own a computer with reliable internet access capable of running required applications.

Required skills

• Brightspace online course delivery platform.
• Proficiency with online teaching technologies and computer‑based instructional tools.
