Academic Advisor – Faculty of Arts

About the role

The Faculty of Arts at UBC is seeking an Academic Advisor to support the academic success, personal development, and retention of approximately 14,000 Aboriginal, domestic, and international students across multiple degree, diploma, and certificate programs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, deliver, evaluate, and assess academic advising services and programs for the Faculty of Arts.
• Assist in the development and use of information technology tools related to academic advising.
• Support recruiting and retention initiatives, especially for Aboriginal and international student cohorts.
• Participate in office administration, including hiring and supervising support staff, peer advisors, and work‑study students.
• Collaborate with faculty, departmental advisors, and campus student services to ensure holistic student support.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to work independently with initiative and considerable autonomy.
• Experience in higher‑education advising or student services is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills for regular interaction with faculty, staff, and students.
• Capacity to contribute to policy development and unit priorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with information technology tools used in academic advising.
