About the role
We are looking for a motivated Tax Specialist to provide comprehensive Canadian tax compliance and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of corporate, partnership, trust and personal clients. The role works closely with senior managers and partners, offering opportunities to develop technical expertise and advance toward a full‑service tax advisor position.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with tax planning and advisory projects, including corporate reorganizations, estate planning and owner‑manager strategies.
- Research complex Canadian tax issues and prepare technical memoranda and client correspondence.
- Review and prepare Canadian corporate (T2), personal (T1) and trust (T3, T5013) income tax returns.
- Identify tax planning opportunities and communicate findings to managers and partners.
- Support HST/GST compliance engagements, prepare returns and handle CRA correspondence.
- Participate in the tax analysis of purchase and sale transactions.
- Liaise with the Canada Revenue Agency on client inquiries, audits and objections under supervision.
- Contribute to firm‑wide knowledge sharing through internal training sessions and team meetings.
Required profile
- CPA designation (or candidates in the final stages of completion).
- Enrollment in or commitment to complete the CPA Canada In‑Depth Tax Course (firm‑sponsored).
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business, Commerce or related field.
- 2–4 years of Canadian public accounting experience focused on tax compliance and planning.
- Experience preparing T1, T2 and T3 returns; tax provision preparation is an asset.
- Familiarity with SR&ED claims, transfer pricing or cross‑border tax matters is a plus.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Canadian tax preparation software (Taxprep).
- Strong knowledge of the Income Tax Act (Canada) and CRA publications.
- Working knowledge of GST/HST legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience with accounting software such as CaseWare, QuickBooks or Sage.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
