Tax Specialist – Estate & Trust Tax Compliance (6-month contract)

About the role

Our client, a leading Canadian financial institution, is looking for an experienced Tax Specialist to support complex estate and trust tax compliance on a 6‑month contract. The role operates in a hybrid model with three days onsite per week and offers the possibility of extension or permanent conversion based on performance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and file complex T1 Personal, T1 Terminal (Final), and T3 Trust and Estate tax returns.
• Gather, review, and analyse tax information from clients and stakeholders.
• Prepare supporting schedules, calculations and tax documentation.
• Identify post‑mortem tax planning opportunities.
• Review CRA assessments and prepare adjustment requests, objections and Clearance Certificate applications.
• Liaise with clients, legal representatives, tax professionals and government agencies.
• Respond to CRA inquiries and provide required documentation.
• Support filings involving Graduated Rate Estates (GREs), Rights or Things returns and testamentary trusts.
• Maintain high standards of accuracy, compliance and service delivery.
• Participate in special projects, process improvements and mentor junior team members.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in accounting, taxation, estates or trust administration.
• Post‑secondary degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian personal, estate and trust taxation.
• CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA is a plus.

Required skills

• Preparation of T1 Personal tax returns.
• Preparation of T1 Terminal (Final) returns.
• Preparation of T3 Trust and Estate returns.
• Expertise with Graduated Rate Estates (GREs).
• Experience using tax preparation software (Taxprep preferred).
