Senior Commissioning Specialist

About the role

HIDI Group is seeking a Senior Commissioning Specialist to lead commissioning activities on a variety of building projects. You will act as the owner’s advocate, ensuring that mechanical, electrical, fire protection and other systems perform as designed. This position combines technical expertise, project management and mentorship responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead commissioning activities on projects of varying size and complexity, acting as the owner’s representative.
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and quality control while overseeing documentation and reporting.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting, conduct site reviews, and lead building audits with detailed actionable reports.
• Guide and mentor Commissioning Coordinators and Specialists, reviewing project data and deliverables.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, identify additional service opportunities, and support proposal development.
• Develop and refine tools, templates, and processes to improve efficiency and consistency across projects.

Required profile

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation.
• Minimum 5 years of commissioning experience with strong knowledge of HVAC&R systems and building operations.
• Familiarity with building codes and standards such as ASHRAE and LEED; LEED accreditation is an asset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, project management and presentation skills.
• Advanced organizational abilities to manage multiple projects and develop processes or tools.
• Willingness to travel within the GTA, across Ontario and occasionally out of province, and ability to obtain government security clearance if required.
