Physiatrist – Rehabilitation Medicine (Nanaimo, BC)

About the role

The Island Health Division of Rehabilitation Medicine is seeking a board‑certified physiatrist to join a team of six physicians providing consultative rehabilitation services at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. The role involves caring for patients with neurological conditions, post‑traumatic injuries and amputations in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive medical assessments and develop treatment plans for rehabilitation patients.
• Provide consultative and directive care for a 25‑bed intensive rehabilitation unit, as well as slow‑stream and transitional units.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of medical, surgical, psychiatric, and allied‑health professionals.
• Utilise on‑site diagnostic services (X‑ray, CT, MRI, sonography, nuclear medicine) to guide patient management.
• Perform epidural and facet injection procedures when indicated.
• Maintain a schedule without night call responsibilities.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or board‑eligible physiatrist.
• Experience or strong interest in hospital‑based rehabilitation of neurological disease, trauma, and amputation patients.
• Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
• Commitment to serving the Nanaimo community.

Required skills

• Epidural injection technique.
• Facet injection technique.
• Interpretation of imaging studies (X‑ray, CT, MRI).
