Lighting Technical Director – Montreal

About the role

Framestore, a multi‑Oscar‑winning visual effects studio, is looking for a Lighting Technical Director to join its Montreal team. You will work closely with 3D CG supervisors, visual effects supervisors and digital compositors to craft the final look of cinematic shots, ensuring realistic lighting and efficient rendering.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble 3D scenes from assets across departments and design lighting setups according to supervisory direction.
• Collaborate with the 3D CG Supervisor to solve technical challenges and define the visual style of each shot.
• Render passes and element sequences, create and optimise lighting configurations for studio pipelines.
• Review schedules and deadlines with production leads, maintaining adherence to timelines.
• Manage scene and asset integration from other departments to meet production milestones.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a similar Lighting TD or VFX lighting role.
• Strong knowledge of Houdini and an understanding of light behavior, textures, and material properties.
• Reliability, strong time‑management and the ability to work under pressure.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills across multiple departments.
• Adaptability and eagerness to learn new tools and processes.
