Junior Mobile Core Support Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Junior Mobile Core Support Engineer to join our telecom team in Canada. The role is hands‑on, working closely with core engineering, Level 1/2 support and network operations to monitor, troubleshoot and escalate real‑time core network issues that could affect customers.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze end‑to‑end call traces across protocols such as MAP, TCAP, RANAP, DIAMETER, SIP, GTP, S1AP and many others to resolve complex network problems.
• Troubleshoot international roaming voice and data issues reported by outbound subscribers and coordinate live tests with worldwide mobile operators.
• Provide L3 technical support to NOC engineers, respond to incidents, and create on‑demand dashboards for service restoration monitoring.
• Develop KPIs, metrics and training material related to signalling, troubleshooting and best practices.
• Document faults, coordinate rectification with other operators and service providers, and ensure escalation follows proper channels.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in a telecom environment performing L3 support or similar roles.
• Strong understanding of mobile network protocols (2G/3G/4G/5G) and the OSI/TCP‑IP model, including IPv4 and IPv6.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and strong interpersonal abilities.
• Willingness to work on a 24/7 rotating on‑call roster.

Required skills

• Protocol signalling analysis across MAP, TCAP, RANAP, DIAMETER, SIP, GTP, S1AP, SGsAP, IuCS, IuPS, Gr, Gn/Gp, S6a, S11, S5/S8, Gm, Rx, Cx.
• Wireshark for signalling trace analysis and SS7 troubleshooting.
• Grafana, Prometheus and ElasticSearch for monitoring and metrics.
• Basic scripting with Python, Linux command line and Bash.
• Solid knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv4, IPv6 and the OSI model.
