About the role
This position supports Indigenous governments and organizations on governance, self‑government, and institution‑building matters. The role is remote and involves close collaboration with Indigenous communities across Canada.
Key responsibilities
- Advise Indigenous governments and organizations on governance structures and self‑government arrangements.
- Draft constitutions, laws, policies, and governance agreements.
- Support negotiations related to self‑government and jurisdictional matters.
- Build long‑term relationships with Indigenous community clients.
- Collaborate with colleagues across related practice areas such as lands, resources, and agreements.
Required profile
- Called to the Bar in Ontario or British Columbia and in good standing.
- Experience in Indigenous law, governance, or a closely related field.
- Genuine interest in and sensitivity to working with Indigenous communities.
- Willingness to travel to community meetings as required.
Required skills
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
